The route leaves San Lorenzo de El Escorial and climbs on the M-505 to the Puerto de la Cruz Verde. It then follows the M-512 and M-537 towards Valdemaqueda and ends in Robledo de Chavela. It is a short ride that makes a good morning outing from the west of Madrid.
It crosses the municipalities of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Robledo de Chavela and Valdemaqueda, in the Sierra Oeste. At the start the surroundings of the Monasterio de El Escorial are in view; then the scenery is pine forest and hillside, with much less traffic than on the Guadarrama passes. Valdemaqueda and Robledo de Chavela are quiet villages for a stop.
It is about 30 km and almost an hour without stops, with more than 90 bends and two hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 815 m to 1,257 m. The M-505 has more traffic and cyclists, especially at weekends; the forest stretches are narrower and may have leaves or sand on the road. Keep to your lane on the bends.
