The route starts at El Tranco, beside the reservoir dam, and climbs towards Hornos. From there it continues north to Segura de la Sierra and finally drops down to Orcera. It combines regional and provincial roads: the A-317, the JA-9118, the A-319 and the JA-9117. It is the natural continuation of the Sierra de Cazorla route and completes a south-to-north crossing of the park.
It crosses the municipalities of Hornos, Segura de la Sierra and Orcera, in the northern part of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park. Hornos and Segura de la Sierra are hilltop villages, each with a castle and wide views over the Tranco reservoir and the surrounding sierras. The road alternates open stretches with slopes of pine forest and terraced olive groves, with continuous bends and some narrow sections, especially on the provincial roads.
It is about 46 km, with an estimated riding time of around an hour and a half without stops. Altitude ranges from around 640 m to around 1,120 m. The climbs up to the villages are narrow with tight bends, and the streets in the old centres are steep and cramped, so park at the edge of town. As everywhere in the sierra, expect gravel, loose livestock and cyclists.
