The route starts in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and returns to the foot of the monastery. Heading west it climbs the Malagón range towards Robledondo through pine forest and drops through the municipality of Santa María de la Alameda towards Robledo de Chavela.
From Robledo de Chavela it turns south-east through Fresnedillas de la Oliva and Navalagamella, among holm oaks and granite, and returns via Valdemorillo to San Lorenzo de El Escorial, passing El Escorial.
It is about 60 km and an hour and a half without stops, with around 125 bends and one hairpin. Altitude ranges from about 680 m to 1,400 m. It makes a good morning ride close to Madrid; at weekends the El Escorial area has quite a lot of traffic.
