The route starts in Vejer de la Frontera, a white village on a hilltop, and drops towards the coast to reach Zahara de los Atunes via the CA-8202 and A-2227. From there it joins the N-340, the main road in the area, and turns off on the A-2231 to the Bolonia cove. It returns to the N-340 to finish in Tarifa, the southern tip of the peninsula.
The landscape is coastal and open: long beaches, pine woods, pasture with grazing cattle and, at Bolonia, the large dune and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia beside the beach. The route crosses the La Janda and Campo de Gibraltar comarcas, through the municipalities of Vejer, Barbate and Tarifa. From the higher stretches of the N-340 near Tarifa, in good visibility, you can see the coast of Africa across the Strait.
It covers about 84 km and around two and a half hours without stops, as much of the route consists of spurs in and out to the coast on minor roads. Altitude ranges from sea level to about 190 m, with no passes. Expect wind, often strong and gusty around Tarifa, and heavy traffic in summer, especially on the N-340 and the beach access roads.
