The route leaves Jerez de la Frontera, with a very short motorway stretch to get out of the city, and continues on the A-2304 and CA-5102 towards San José del Valle. From there it follows the A-2003 into the hills to the Puerto de Gáliz, and finishes by descending the A-373 to Ubrique, one of the white villages of the Sierra de Cádiz.

It is a ride of contrasts: it starts in the flat, open Campiña de Jerez and, from San José del Valle onwards, enters La Janda and the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, with forests of cork oak and Portuguese oak. The Puerto de Gáliz section is the twistiest, with linked bends in very green surroundings. The descent towards Ubrique enters the Sierra de Cádiz comarca. It crosses the municipalities of Jerez, San José del Valle, Alcalá de los Gazules and Ubrique.

It covers about 95 km and an estimated three and a half hours of riding without stops. Altitude ranges from almost sea level to about 700 m around the pass. Outside the villages there are few services, so set off with a full tank. On the mountain section the forest casts a lot of shade and the tarmac may be damp or covered in leaves; there may also be loose livestock and cyclists.
