The route starts in Lanjarón, the gateway to the Alpujarra, and follows the A-348 to Órgiva. From there the A-4132 climbs the hillside towards Pampaneira and Pitres and carries on to Trevélez. It is a one-way ride on which the road gains height gradually, linking villages and ravines, and it can be extended along other roads in the area or ridden back in different light.
The whole ride stays within the Alpujarra granadina, through the municipalities of Lanjarón, Órgiva, Carataunas, Pampaneira, La Taha, Pórtugos, Busquístar and Trevélez. These are the well-known white villages on the southern slopes of Sierra Nevada, with houses stepped up the hillside and terraced fields around them. The road is narrow and twisty, with one bend after another and village crossings; it is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace, looking at the scenery rather than the rev counter.
It is about 45 km, but the route engine estimates close to an hour and three quarters without stops, which says a lot about the road. Altitude ranges from around 450 m to just over 1,500 m. Expect pedestrians, parked vehicles and tight streets in the villages, and livestock or gravel in the mountains. In summer the lower area around Órgiva can be hot.
