The route leaves Benicàssim and takes the CV-147, which climbs in bends through the hills to the monastery of the Desert de les Palmes. It then drops down the Castelló side, skirts the edge of the municipality near La Magdalena and reaches Borriol on the N-340a. It is a short ride that makes a good half-morning outing from the coast.
The ride stays in the Plana Alta, through the municipalities of Benicàssim, Castelló de la Plana and Borriol, and crosses the Parque Natural del Desert de les Palmes. The range, covered in scrub and pine, rises right behind the coast, and the lookouts on the climb take in the Benicàssim shoreline and the Castelló plain. There are no hairpins, but the bends are constant on the mountain section.
It is about 27 km and roughly an hour without stops, with around 110 bends. Altitude ranges from about 20 m to about 420 m. The climb is very popular with cyclists and walkers, and at weekends there are cars parked by the lookouts and the monastery. The road is narrow in places; in summer, beware of the heat and of the fire risk in the hills.
