The route starts in Álora and follows the Guadalhorce upstream on the MA-5403 to El Chorro, beside the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, home of the Caminito del Rey walkway. From there it continues on the MA-5005 towards Ardales, passes the reservoir area and carries on along the A-357 and A-7278 to finish in Teba. It links the Valle del Guadalhorce with the Guadalteba comarca, with plenty of reasons to stop along the way.
The scenery changes quickly: first the valley with orchards and orange trees, then the rock walls of the gorge at El Chorro and, further on, the water of the Guadalhorce reservoirs surrounded by pine woods and hills. The road alternates narrow, twisty sections with more open ones. It crosses the municipalities of Álora, Ardales and Teba, the last one in the Guadalteba, with Teba castle overlooking the end of the route.
It covers about 48 km and a little under two hours of riding without stops; the pace is relaxed because there are many bends and narrow stretches. Altitude ranges from about 130 m to about 570 m, with no high passes. Around El Chorro and the reservoirs there are often many visitors at weekends and in high season, with parked cars and people on foot beside the road: take it slowly and be careful when overtaking.
