Altitude profile34–961 m

The A-7000 leaves Málaga and climbs through the Montes de Málaga to Colmenar in the Axarquía. It is the old road to Colmenar, now much quieter than the faster roads that replaced it, and a way of getting from the coast to the interior in very little time. It lets you leave the city and be in the hills within minutes.

The route runs through the municipalities of Málaga and Colmenar, between the Málaga-Costa del Sol and Axarquía areas, and crosses the Parque Natural Montes de Málaga. The landscape is pine woods and Mediterranean scrub, with natural viewpoints over the city, the port and the bay. The road is narrow, with tight, linked bends; it is more technical than fast.

It is about 35 km and a little over an hour and a quarter without stops, which reflects how twisty it is. Altitude goes from around 35 m to about 960 m. It is very popular with cyclists and riders, especially at weekends: ride carefully, mind the limited visibility on the bends and watch for gravel or leaves on the tarmac.
