The route leaves Falset, capital of the Priorat, and takes the T-740 to Porrera. From there the TP-7402 leads towards Cornudella de Montsant, and the C-242 continues along the foot of the range to Ulldemolins.

The whole ride is in the Priorat district, through the municipalities of Falset, Porrera, Cornudella de Montsant and Ulldemolins. The road winds between terraced vineyards on slate slopes, and from Cornudella it runs below the cliffs of the Serra de Montsant, a natural park. What makes it special is the density of bends: there are hardly any straights the whole way.

It is about 35 km and around an hour without stops, with around 200 bends and five hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 300 m to almost 780 m. The local roads are narrow in places and at harvest time there may be tractors and mud on the surface. There are cyclists at weekends: only overtake with clear visibility.

Best time

Spring and autumn are best; autumn, with the vines turning colour. Summer is very hot: go early.

Before you go

  • At harvest time, watch for tractors and mud on the road.
  • The bends are blind between terraces: keep to your lane.
  • Stop in Cornudella to see the cliffs of the Montsant.
