The route leaves Ribes de Freser, in the Freser valley, and climbs the N-260 through Planoles and Toses. The road gains height in long sweeps up to the Collada de Toses and then drops into the Cerdanya as far as Alp. At the start and finish it uses short stretches of the GI-400, the GIV-4016 and the GIV-4015R.
The ride links the Ripollès with the Cerdanya through the municipalities of Ribes de Freser, Planoles, Toses and Alp. The climb leaves behind the wooded valleys of the Ripollès for high mountain pastures, and from the pass you can see the Cerdanya plain ringed by Pyrenean ranges. What makes it special is the layout: wide, well-linked bends with the high-mountain feel of a major pass.
It is about 41 km and a little over an hour without stops, with around 190 bends and three hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 900 m to just over 1,800 m. It is the main road into the Cerdanya and carries cars and lorries, especially at weekends: only overtake with clear visibility and plenty of room. It is cold at the top even in summer, the weather changes quickly and in winter there is snow and ice; there are speed checks in the area.
