The loop starts and ends in Olot. It leaves on the GI-524 towards Santa Pau, crossing the volcanic area, and continues through Mieres and Sant Miquel de Campmajor to Banyoles and its lake.
From Banyoles the route heads to Besalú, with its medieval bridge over the Fluvià, and returns towards Olot on the N-260, the C-66 and the GI-522, passing Castellfollit de la Roca, perched on a basalt cliff, and Sant Joan les Fonts. The whole loop is in the Garrotxa and the Pla de l'Estany, much of it in or next to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park.
It is about 74 km and around two and a quarter hours without stops, with around 150 bends and no hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 125 m to about 630 m. It is more about scenery than bends, with stretches of main road carrying traffic; at weekends Besalú, Banyoles and Castellfollit get many visitors.
