The route leaves Monistrol de Montserrat, by the Llobregat, and twists up to the Montserrat monastery. From there it drops down the other side of the mountain to El Bruc. It uses the BP-1121, BP-1103 and BP-1101 roads.
The ride links the Bages with the Anoia through the municipalities of Monistrol de Montserrat, Marganell and El Bruc, inside the Muntanya de Montserrat Natural Park. The road skirts the conglomerate walls and pinnacles that give the mountain its shape, with wide views over the Llobregat valley and central Catalonia. What makes it special is the setting: few roads have such unusual rock scenery so close to Barcelona.
It is about 23 km and a little over an hour without stops, with around 120 bends and a couple of hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 140 m to about 730 m. The monastery gets huge numbers of visitors: expect coaches, cars looking for parking and pedestrians near the top, especially at weekends. There are cyclists on the climb: only overtake with clear visibility and plenty of room.
