The route leaves Orxeta and reaches Sella, where it joins the CV-770. From there the road climbs the southern face of the Serra d'Aitana to the Port de Tudons and then drops through Alcoleja to Penàguila, partly on the CV-781. It is a one-way ride, one of the most mountainous inland in Alicante province, and it links well with the Guadalest valley or the roads of l'Alcoià.
The ride runs through the municipalities of Orxeta, Sella, Alcoleja and Penàguila, in the Marina Baixa and along its inland edge. The climb from Sella leaves the farmed valleys behind for open, dry mountain country, with the bulk of Aitana alongside and views towards the coast as you gain height. Traffic is usually light and the road feels more remote than those on the nearby coast.
It is about 28 km and around 50 minutes without stops, with some 165 bends and eight hairpins. You go from about 185 m to about 1,030 m at the pass. The road is narrow in places and may have gravel; the climb is popular with cyclists, who should be given plenty of room. In winter there can be ice at the top early in the day.
