The loop starts and ends in Vistabella del Maestrat, on its plateau. It drops down the CV-170 to Xodos and Llucena and from there follows the CV-190 and CV-165 through l'Alcalatén towards Atzeneta del Maestrat. From Atzeneta it climbs on the CV-169 and CV-171 to Benafigos and returns to Vistabella.
The ride circles the Penyagolosa through the municipalities of Vistabella, Xodos, Llucena, Figueroles, L'Alcora, Costur, Les Useres, Atzeneta del Maestrat and Benafigos. It moves from the high pastures and dry-stone walls around Vistabella to the ravines and terraces of l'Alcalatén, with the outline of the Penyagolosa in view for much of the way. What makes it special is the mix of long climbs, big height differences and almost non-stop bends.
It is about 125 km and almost four hours without stops, with around 530 bends and ten hairpins. Altitude ranges from about 320 m to about 1,250 m. It is a demanding loop: plan your time and fuel carefully, as there are few services on the higher part. In winter there is frost and sometimes snow around Vistabella; watch for livestock and gravel on the local roads.
